Africa in Rio 2016 6/8/2016



On 05th of August 2016, the World watched an excellent opening ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The cycling competitions start on 06/08/2016 at 09:30am by the Men Road Race, where (144) entries from (63) National Olympic Committees were recorded.

The Belgium van AVERMAET Greg became the champion with a time 06:10':05". While the African riders finished the race as follow: Louis MEINTJES (South Africa) ranked the 7th place with a gap time +22" , Daryl IMPEY (South Africa) ranked the 28th place with a gap of +9':38" and Anass Ait ELABDIA (Morocco) ranked the 47th place with a time gap of +20':00".

Meintjes and Impey take part in the Olympic race just few days after their participation in Tour de France an UCI World Tour class 2.UWT.

The average speed for the race was 38,505 km /h for a total distance of 237.5 km.

Among the (144) entries (79) cyclists did not finished the race among them namely:
Abderrahmane Mansouri and Youcef Reguigui from Algeria, Soufiane Haddi and Mouhssine Lahsaini from Morocco, Adrien Nuyonshuti from Rwanda, Ali Nouisri from Tunisia, Tsgabu Gebremaryam Grmay from Ethiopia and Dan Craven from Namibia.
